Contraindications
All massage therapists must inform themselves about the contraindications related to the practice of their profession, with the aim of providing care that is both safe and respectful to their client. To do this, the AMQ® has taken the initiative of bringing together in alphabetical order the situations most often reported by its members and requiring specific recommendations.
Therapeutic practice
means and includes any bodily, postural or psycho-corporeal work of a global nature applied to an individual with the aim of prevention, keeping and/or promotion of well-being.
The massage
means and includes any process consisting of kneading, rubbing, touching, touching or otherwise moving the body of a human being either manually or by means of any authorized instrument.
Massage is an art helped by science.
A massage therapist is therefore not a physician.
- He cannot and must not make or issue diagnoses.
- He cannot and must not use the word “patient”, but rather “client”.
- He cannot and must not use the words “health check”, but rather “client file”.
These recommendations are intended to protect the client as well as the massage therapist.
- The massage therapist can assess whether the contraindication requires medical authorization.
- If any doubt persists, do not hesitate to refer the client to their treating physician.
- Medical authorization may also be requested to the client.
